Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Site Tour Confirmed for Heavy Haul Rail Attendees

Driving Innovation to Deliver Efficiencies is the central theme of our 6th annual Heavy Haul Rail Conference which will take place at Mackay Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 24th and 25th August. The Australasian Railway Association and Informa are proud to have developed an agenda showcasing the best in local and international project expertise as well as providing updates on the latest equipment, technology and maintenance from industry. Heavy Haul Rail 2016 marks the first time this event has incorporated a site tour into its program and we are delighted that management of the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal at Hay Point will lead conference attendees in a tour of facilities on the afternoon of the 25th.

Since commencing operations in 1983, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd has established itself as Queensland’s premier coal export facility. Striving toward its vision of being ‘The Terminal Operator of Choice’, the terminal is an integral part of Australia’s coal supply chain, ensuring reliability and continuity of DBCT 1supply of thermal and metallurgical coal from Queensland’s Bowen Basin coal fields to the world export market.

DBCT is supplied by an electrified rail system from the Bowen Basin coalfields and is the only privately owned and operated terminal in Queensland that offers multiple third party access. Coal arrives at the terminal by rail and is unloaded “on the move” as trains pass through one of three Rail Receival stations. An extensive conveyor network then transports the coal either directly to the wharf for loading or to the stockyard for storage.

The 1.66 kilometre wharf features four berths, which can accommodate ships ranging from 20,000 to 220,000 dead weight tonne.
Three manually-operated shiploaders are used to transfer coal from the wharf conveyors into the holds of ships at a nominal loading rate of 7200 tonnes per hour. While the size and cargo of each ship visiting the terminal can vary greatly, it takes about 22 hours to load the average 80,000 tonne cargo.

With an uncompromising dedication to ensuring the safety of its people and the surrounding community, coupled with an unparalleled persistence to achieve operational excellence, DBCT P/L has been reliably exporting coal around the world for 30 years.

If you are interested in learning more about the terminal and touring the facility, check out the conference website to see how to register for the event and book your place on the tour. Places are strictly limited to 30 attendees. Please note – All attendees will be required to bring along PPE.

Look forward to seeing you there!
