What and where are Australians buying online? Ben Franzi talks eCommerce trends

Ben Franzi is GM Global eCommerce Platforms for  Australia Post and StarTrack. He sat down with us in the lead up to the Online Retail Logistics Conference in Sydney, 18-19 November.

Please tell us a little about yourself and your current role.
As GM Sales, Global eCommerce Platforms, my area of interest and expertise is the eCommerce market with a particular focus on understanding and analysing industry trends and growth areas domestically and internationally. I’m also responsible for building partnerships with online marketplaces and eCommerce platforms to ensure StarTrack and Australia Post products and services are readily available for all our customers, wherever they may be.

In previous roles I’ve been responsible for the strategic direction for parcels and freight services of Australia Post as it shifted from a mail service to an eCommerce service provider. Prior to this I led the strategic development of the eCommerce Program for Australia Post.

What do you think will be the key challenge for online retail logistics going into next year?
I think the key logistics challenge for online retailers in 2015 will be how they reduce the number of touches in their supply chain to reduce their total unit cost.

StarTrackWhat main issues has StarTrack faced in the last year or so?
The integration of StarTrack and Australia Post has meant that we now have the leading logistics and e-commerce proposition in the market for both Australian businesses and consumers.  There is no other logistics business that can match our network reach capabilities and products, our service standards or our e-commerce solutions for the integration of delivery and payments capabilities on business websites.  We have been working to make our network inter-operable to offer our customers the best service we can.

What will you be discussing in your presentation?
I’ll be covering the latest ecommerce trends and their impact on cross border trade, international markets and domestic online retail supply chains. I’ll also be sharing some interesting new delivery data trends we’ve been seeing within different geographic regions for some of the popular online retail categories.

What other presentation are you looking forward to at this year’s conference?
I’m really looking forward to The Future of Pureplay by David Shafer, ED, Kogan Technologies and Paul Greenberg’s presentation on OmniChannel Brand Experience.

See Ben Franzi and a host of other expert speakers – book now for the Online Retail Logistics 2014 at the Parkroyal Darling Harbour, 18-19 November Sydney.
